2001 Maniacs (’05)♦♦♦♦♦

A group of college students take a trip down to the south and discover happy townspeople with a vengeance for their lost in the civil war. A group of celebrating college students decide to take a trip down to a small southern town in time for remembrance of the civil war and a barbeque. While the students are quite annoyed at the townspeople’s culture and old time hospitality, an eerie vibe goes on throughout the town as the students stay longer. This movie contains heavy gore scenes with a comic twist. It’s a horror you can laugh to as well as cringe.

Final Destination 3 (’06)♦♦♦♦♦

After foreseeing the crash of a roller coaster, a girl is stalked by death along with the other students who abandoned the ride before the crash. On her senior trip, a girl foresees the crashing of a rollercoaster she is about to ride. Panicked, the girl gets off along with other students. The rollercoaster crashes as she has seen, and death stalks those in the order of when they would have died on the ride. It’s an extremely gory & bloody movie with elements of premonitions & predictions.

Frankenstein (’31)♦♦♦♦

A scientist who wants to make life creates a creature with a killer’s brain. As a scientist becomes obsessed with his studies & experiments, he goes into cemeteries collecting bodies. He then uses the parts of the bodies to make one single body. By having his assistant steal a brain from a medical school, the scientist, now insane, is determine to prove to the world that you can bring people back from the dead. As the movie unfolds, it is learned to not test the powers of God. It’s a classical movie which still makes viewers on edge at certain scenes.

Freaks (’32)♦♦♦♦♦

A female circus star marries a rich midget for his money while his other circus friends try to save him from his greedy wife. After witnessing the performance of the circus’s starlet, a midget falls in love with her while the starlet uses him to get this inheritance. The two get married, however, the midget’s friends realize the starlet has a lover and does not truly love their friend. Throughout the movie, tension builds between the starlet and her abnormal circus partners. This movie stars famous people who have been considered “freaks” all their lives but prove that they are just like everyone else. In this movie, they prove it the hard way.

Freddy VS Jason (’04)♦♦♦♦♦

In order to kill people in their sleep, Freddy brings back Jason from hell to put fear into the people of a small town. In a home on a suburban street, a group of friends are suddenly terrorized by the death of a friend while he was asleep. The police keep the incident silent while the group of friends are slowly terrorized by a mysterious force. As the story unfolds, it soon becomes apparent it’s not safe awake nor asleep. It’s an extremely gory and bloody movie. This movie is perfect for anybody whether they are a fan of the two killers or not.

Fright Night (’85)♦♦♦

A teenage boy deals with having a vampire as his next door neighbor. A small town teenager has a suspicious new neighbor. Soon after his neighbor moves in, the start of a string of young women murders begin. After looking through his window one night, the boy sees that his neighbor has fangs and he was with a young woman. Determined to save himself & his friends, the boy must prove that his neighbor is a vampire. Throughout the movie, themes of courage & trust are repeatedly shown. This movie contains slight gore with moderate bloody scenes and partial nudity.

Ghost in the Machine (’93)

A killer uses a network in order to commit murder. The movie contains slight blood and is creepy for people with electronically based objects.

Gorilla at Large (’54)

A group of carnival workers are held at the carnival by police after a murder believed to be by their main attraction. It’s a mysterious and puzzling movie.

Gothika (’03)♦♦♦♦♦

A woman is sent to a psychiatric ward after being suspected for killing her husband. After a regular day’s work, a psychologist heads home. While driving home, she encounters a girl in blood standing in the middle of the road. When the woman wakes up, she’s in a cell at the same psychiatric ward she works at. Now with her ex-co workers thinking she’s crazy, the former psychologist has to prove her innocence against proof that she killed her husband that night. It’s a gory and suspenseful movie with elements of possession and education towards the life in a psychiatric ward.

I Still Know what you did last summer (’98)♦♦♦

A young woman takes a tropical vacation with her friends to discover an evil the woman is familiar with. A woman tries to connect with a man of interest who seems to be more into his job than her. One day, the woman and her friend win a radio contest and take a trip with 2 other guys to the Bahamas. The trip is not so pleasant when the hurricane season comes and no other guests are there at the resort. To add to the misery, the woman is haunted by reoccurring references around her from a guilty past. It’s a bloody and eerie movie with mysteries revealed.

Jason X (’02)

Set in the distant future, a group of students on a spaceship meet a woman and the masked killer she was frozen with. It’s a gory and eerie movie and brings a new element to Jason’s environment.

Jaws (’75)

A man goes on a sea venture with two men to take on a great white shark. It’s a bloody and gory movie with unexpected events.

John Carpenter Presents Vampires: Los Muertos ('02)♦♦

A vampire hunter tracks down a deadly vampire who wishes to be able to walk in daylight. As a vampire hunter is trying to track down a powerful vampire, he comes across the oddest people to aid him in his quest. Together, the team of social misfits tracks down a vampire who wishes to walk in daylight. As time goes on, the hunter realizes there’s more to this vampire than people think. This movie contains high levels of blood, little gore, & poor acting (except a few people).
Lake Placid (’99)

A team of officers and scientist try to uncover the unusual death of a man at a large lake by an unknown creature. There can be a little suspense in the movie but nothing of scare.

Land of the Dead (’05)♦♦♦♦♦

A horde of zombies march toward a highly secured city. A group of zombie hunters are struggling more and more to keep zombies away from the mainland. When the president becomes stingy with his pay towards the hunters, one of the hunters has his own way of payback towards his money hungry boss. It’s a gory movie with signs of intelligence in the zombies.

Leeches (’03)

Leeches in a camp lake become deadly as they feed off steroidal blood. It’s an eerie movie with elements of a Jaws like fear of the water.
Leprechaun (’92)♦♦♦

A leprechaun torments & terrorizes a mall town searching for his gold. When a poor couple comes into possession of a bad of gold, an evil leprechaun comes after them. Years pass & a new family moves into the home without the knowledge of it’s past. This movie contains slight blood and is sure to shatter anyone’s view of Mr. Lucky Charms.

May (’02)♦♦♦♦♦

After heartbreak, a lonely woman kills those who opposed her to make a ‘friend’. In this movie, an extremely less than normal woman lives a dull life. She works at a vet’s office, sews, and talks to her doll Susie. When she meets a man with the same interests in horror and grotesque, she becomes obsessed with him. The story unfolds to reveal betrayal and fear of the unusual can have deadly costs. It’s a sadistic movie and not intended for people who are weak at the sight of blood or for those who are easily influenced by movies. Viewers will learn a good message: “If at first you don’t succeed, try try again.”

Misery (’90)♦♦♦♦♦

A famous writer is nursed back to health by his #1 fan. After a car accident, a writer is rescued by an obsessed fan & taken care of. As time passes, the fan becomes more & more obsessed to the point where the writer is in desperate need to escape. This movie portrays how mentally unhealthy obsession can be & how the obsession itself can turn out to be deadly. This movie also contains mild language & elements of surprise.

Monster Man (’03)♦♦♦♦♦

A man and his friend drive through a small town to get to a girl’s wedding. Determined to admit his love for a college friend, a man travels cross country to stop her wedding. Unexpectedly, his college roommate stowaways in his car for the ride and jests at the man for his love ideals. The men pick up a mysterious woman and she travels with them. Overtime, the man trying to stop the wedding slowly falls for the woman and deadly secrets are revealed about her. It’s a classic small town horror with strong language and gore.

Night of the living dead (’68)♦♦♦

Zombies rage terror on a small town. A woman and her brother visit a grave one day and as her brother taunts her, a zombie attacks them killing the woman brother. The woman hides out in a house with another man as they defend themselves against a horde of zombies lurking on the outside. This movie was intentionally made in black and white to add a little ‘something’ to the theme making the movie overall creepy.

Nightmare Castle (’65)♦♦

The spirits of a murdered couple torment a man & his new wife. After cathcin his wife cheating, a man murders her & her lover. The man marries his wife’s sister & lives happily. However, it seems the spirits of the couple are not through with life yet. This movie is a great example of “what comes around goes around.” It is also slightly bloody & suspenseful.

Nosferatu (’29)♦♦♦♦

A real estate agent journeys into the land of phantoms to settle a sale on a mansion. A successful real estate agent is sent on a journey one day by his mysterious boss in order to retrieve a deal from a even more mysterious buyer. As the movie goes on, the agent is constantly warned by villagers of the evils that dwell within the buyer. However, the agent remains skeptical. This is an overall creepy movie with classic touches to entice the viewer in suspense. (silent)

A submarine crew tries to survive against an unknown creature in the middle of the ocean. It’s a mysterious, bloody, and eerie movie.

One Body Too Many (’44)♦♦

People turn up dead as family members await the reading of a will. After a dead man’s last request is read, hateful family members are forced to live together until the day of the reading of the will. The family members become dangerously impatient as time grows on. This movie contains elements of mystery, crime & comedy. Overall, viewers may grow impatient themselves waiting for something to happen.

Out for Blood (’04)

A man tries to find the vampire who attacked him. It’s a bloody and eerie movie with emphasis on ‘suspension disbelief’.

Poltergeist (’82)♦♦♦♦

A suburban couple deals with the kidnapping of their daughter by spirits within their home. In the movie, it starts with a simple suburban home with no problems what so ever. However, the couple’s high clairvoyant daughter attracts spirits who wish to cross over to the afterlife. By hiring psychics who are able to speak with the dead, the couple hopes for the best as their home is being terrorized by desperate spirits. It’s a chilling movie with supernatural elements and skeletal figures. It mainly deals with death and the afterlife. Not for young children who believe in closet monsters.

Poltergeist II: The Other Side (’86)♦♦♦

A girl with high clairvoyance attracts a spirit who wishes to cross over. After having their house engulfed into the spirit world, a family moves into grandma’s house. While staying there, the grandma dies & the family meets an eerie man who has interest in their daughter. As the movie progresses, they get help from highly spiritual people who guide their daughter to protect herself and her family. This movie contains many skeleton figures with an eerie vibe throughout the movie. This movie also shows that love conquers over evil.
Predator (’87)♦♦♦♦♦

An army squad searches the jungles on a rescue mission turned survival game with an unknown enemy. When a Special Forces military team goes into the jungles of Latin America to rescue their comrades, the team is faced with an enemy more deadly than the guerillas there. As time grows on & comrades die off, the survivors are focused on getting out alive than saving anyone. This movie is definitely not for children let alone people weak at the sight of gore. This movie is also filled with suspense & heart pounding action that grabs the viewer into the movie itself.
Puppet Master (’89)♦♦♦♦

A group of psychics investigate the mysterious death of a woman’s husband. A few decades after the suicide of a puppet master during the 1920s, a team of psychics are called to a hotel for the funeral of a friend of theirs. While his death is very mysterious, the team tries to investigate what was the last thing he was doing before he died. As the movie progresses, it is revealed that while the puppet master hid his creations, his creations had minds of their own. It’s a bloody and freaky movie which would scare children and freak out everybody else.

Return of the Living Dead (’93)♦♦♦♦♦

Two warehouse workers unleash a gas which wakens an entire graveyard from the dead. A teenage boy gets a job at a local warehouse. While being given a tour throughout the warehouse by an elder co-worker, they accidentally break a container holding a dead body with gas that escapes the warehouse and rain bring the gas to the ground awaking the dead in a nearby graveyard. Unfortunately, the boy’s friends are outside in the graveyard waiting for his shift to end. It’s a gory movie with elements of comedy thrown in.

Scream (’97)♦♦♦♦

A killer stalks teenagers in a small town. On a regular night, a teenage couple is brutally murdered & suspicion is pointed towards the school. When the killer pays a visit to a young girl, the girl becomes the center of attention. Over time, the girls is harassed by the townspeople & stalked by the killer. This movie plays out as a horror simply for the gore. However, the movie is good for it’s mystery & suspense. It contains a surprising ending, but everything falls into place.

Session 9 (’01)♦♦

A cleaning crew encounters a mysterious asylum with a dark past. As a cleaning crew tries to clean up an abandoned insane asylum, one of the crew members finds the session tapes of a deceased patient with multiple personalities. As time goes on & work becomes harder, the tapes become more relevant. This movie is good for psychology lesions as well as the phrase: “mind over matter”. It is slightly bloody with mild language and suspense along with a mysterious plot.
Sleepy Hollow (’99)♦♦♦♦

A constable investigates a series of murders in a small town. On the brink of being dismissed from his duties, a science prone constable is sent to investigate a string of murders in a small town. Skeptical of the villager’s legend, the constable uses his science to investigate the crimes. As the movie progresses, the constable’s skepticism slowly fades to reveal the truth behind the murders. This movie emphasizes the difference between science & the supernatural/magical. This movie also contains moderate blood & slight gore.

Slither (’06)

A man becomes infested by a worm and brings chaos to a small rural town. It’s a movie with moderate gore however more misshapen bodies that disturb which adds an even more uneasy feeling throughout the movie.

Strangeland (’98)♦♦♦♦♦

A detective hunts down a psychotic yet intelligent man who kidnaps and tortures people he meets on the internet. After chatting with a mysterious person over the internet, two teenage girls go over to his house for a party. When the girls go missing for 2 days, a detective goes after them. But he finds himself in a bigger & much sicker situation. Throughout the movie, themes of trust and misjudgment are ever present as the story unfolds. This movie is extremely graphic along with explicit nudity which compliments Dee Snider with great screenwriting, producing, & acting abilities.

Underworld (’03)♦♦♦

As a war rages between vampires and werewolves, a female vampire falls protective over werewolf to discover his importance. The werewolves discover a man who has a gene in him that, if made werewolf, he would be their messiah to defeating the vampires. A powerful female vampire realizes this, and kidnaps the man in order to prevent the werewolves from influencing him to destroy the vampire race. It’s a dark, suspenseful, action filled, and bloody movie. It’s good for fans of futuristic vampires.

Venom (’05)♦♦

A group of teenagers in southern Louisiana defend themselves against a dead man who has been possessed by evil snakes used in voodoo. An old woman who is an expert in voodoo gets into a car wreck and dies. While trying to salvage her belongings in a car about to fall into the lake, a man accidentally opens a briefcase containing deadly snakes and is killed by them as the car sinks into the lake. As the movie progresses, the town in southern Louisiana is terrorized by his horrific being. This movie is suspenseful in the sense of the mood it sets within the swamps.

Vlad (’03)

A group of college students go to Transylvania to learn about Vlad the Impaler. This movie contains heavy nudity and slight gore with good historical reference.

Voodoo Moon (’05)♦♦♦♦

A man involves his psychic sister with the battle against Satan. After seeing a terrifying vision with runes, a man’s spiritual teacher tells him to return to his hometown in order battle a great evil that has found human form. The man reunites with his sister and fellow comrades with special powers given to them from God in order to protect the Earth from evil. As time grows on, the man’s sister realizes what exactly her gift is. It’s an action-filled movie with slight gore. This movie also has biblical references with a modern day Jesus vs. Satan.

Watchers Reborn (’03)

A detective picks up a dog with a murderous sibling and a woman responsible for them both. It’s a gory movie with acts of inhuman treatment of animals.

When a Stranger Calls (’06)♦♦

A young woman goes to a wealthy household to baby-sit & discovers someone’s watching her. A high school teenager looking for extra money gets a job as a baby-sitter for a wealthy family. Obnoxious to the stories going on in the news, the teenage girl is unaware of the serial killer going around murdering baby-sitters. This movie contains suspense; however, it does not grab constant attention.

Whisper (’07)♦♦♦♦

A couple with 2 friends kidnaps a mysterious rich boy for money. Desperate for money, a couple kidnaps a rich boy. As time passes & comrades die off, the couple realizes the boy has plans of his own. This movie contains suspense with demonic abilities.

White Zombie (’32)♦

A young man tries to solve the mystery behind his wife’s sudden death. On the night of their wedding a couple encounter a group of people their driver calls “zombies”. Ignoring the superstition, the couple wed. As they eat their dinner, the wife dies. As the movie goes on, the now widower is told his wife’s death was not natural. This movie is one of the rare that implies zombies to be servant/slaves to people instead of the common belief that zombies are to be destroyed. However, this movie also lacks a strong sense of keeping the viewer’s attention.
